ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro, the two primary desktop applications for GIS professionals, are both part of ArcGIS Desktop. ArcMap and its companion application, ArcCatalog, as well as ArcGlobe and ArcScene, work together to provide a full spectrum of GIS capabilities. These applications are the focus of this help system. Information about ArcGIS Pro, the newest member of this group, is available at http://pro.arcgis.com.

There are severals ways to do this, but they require one of two installation options. Option One: Create a dual-boot setup on your Mac, which allows you to boot into either Mac OS or Windows OS.
Install and set up
- Go to My Esri and log in to download ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap).
Note:
Your account must have permission to download software from the downloads area within My Esri.
- Review the system requirements before you initiate the installation program.
- Start the installation program; it will step you through the process. Refer to the Installation Guide for complete details.
Note:
The installation program is designed to detect and upgrade existing installations; you do not need to explicitly uninstall versions 10.1 or later.
- Once installation completes, you need to authorize the software. The ArcGIS Administration Wizard helps you do this.
License:
If you're upgrading a single use instance of ArcGIS Desktop, your existing software authorization number is still valid and will work with ArcGIS 10.5 or 10.5.1.
If you run a concurrent use instance of ArcGIS Desktop, the license server you connect to for authorization must be running ArcGIS License Manager 10.5.1.

For ArcGIS Maps for Office to operate properly, Esri assumes an operation configuration of these applications. Esri tests ArcGIS Maps for Office only in software environments certified as supported by Microsoft Excel or Microsoft PowerPoint; not all Excel- or PowerPoint-supported environments have been tested or certified. Embedded spreadsheets
Although Microsoft Word allows you to embed and work with an Excel spreadsheet in a document, this workflow is not supported by ArcGIS Maps for Office and is not recommended.

To use ArcGIS Maps for Office, you must have an ArcGISuser type that includes privileges to create, analyze, and share content in an ArcGIS Online organization or an on-premises ArcGIS Enterprise deployment. You can sign up for a free trial subscription of ArcGIS Online. It is assumed that the authentication method used to access the platform has been properly configured by the ArcGIS administrator. Public ArcGIS Online accounts are not supported.
